Talent Ticker, February Edition

It’s already February and the latest round of talent technology news is full of interesting startup, mergers and funding. Here’s whats happening.

Snagajob, America’s largest marketplace for hourly work, has completed a $100 million Rho Acceleration-led investment with NewSpring Capital and the Invus Group. The company will use the proceeds to expand its product offerings and fund select acquisitions. [ press release ]

@chrisrussell: according to one article I read the company is operating at “break even”, that surprised me given that the firm is several years old. I wonder how much that has to do with the type of candidate they help attract?

Plum.io gets funding. The pre-assessment hiring tool won the 43North biz plan competition in Buffalo and has almost $2 million in funding. Congrats to founders Cailtlan & Christine. [ read story ]

BUZZHIRE, a London based startup aims to offer temporary workforce on demand. Similar to US based services like Shiftgig, they want to help other firms hire people like delivery drivers which are becoming more in demand as we merge into this new sharing economy. [ read story ]

Proven has a new app I recently article I published about the launch of a new mobile recruiting app by my company Proven. It’s designed for small business owners and it’s the first app to support multi job board distribution. [ read details ]

* WorkAmerica – LinkedIn for the skilled trades
* WorkGenius – Scheduling and support platform for hourly workers
* Tackl – University talent inventory powered by smart matching

Dice, completed the sale of Slashdot Media to BIZX LLC. Slashdot Media provides integrated media strategies to influence technology buyers. It includes the Slashdot and SourceForge businesses. The transaction closed Jan. 27; financial terms were not disclosed.
DHI first announced its plan to sell Slashdot Media in July 2015 as part of its strategy to focus on its core brands, as Slashdot Media no longer fits within the company’s core strategic initiatives. [ press release ]

JobToday: Can a smartphone messaging app replace the age-old CV in the service industry sector? That’s the premise driving European startup JobToday, which is targeting the fast flow of service and blue collar workers with a mobile app that aims to speed up and simplify the hiring process. It’s today announcing a $10 million Series A round, led by Accel, along with participation from Felix Capital and existing investor Mangrove Capital Partners. Jopwell, the Y-Combinator-backed diversity and hiring recruiting platform dedicated to helping blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans get jobs in tech, has raised a $3.25 million seed round. [ read story ]

Sourced – Focused on recruitment and professional development for software developers, it scans code submitted to repositories on services such as GitHub and Bitbucket, and builds a database of the skills and experience of each coder. [ read story ]

TaxJobs.com launches to help you recruit corporate tax professionals. [ read story ]

Talent Rover, a software platform that modernizes the staffing and recruitment industry, announced that it has completed a $2.2 million financing round. Since launching in 2011, the company has raised over $12.5M from a small group of angel investors. To meet increasing domestic and international demand, Talent Rover will open a Chicago office and aggressively hire local talent in Asia-Pacific and Europe. [ press release ]

Human Resource Executive Magazine Announces Inaugural Talent Acquisition Tech Conference. It’s an offshoot of their HR Technology Conference & Exposition®, the event will take place November 14 – 16, 2016 at the Hilton in Austin, Texas. “As competition for talent grows and companies seek new ways to stand out and attract top candidates, the conference will help employers develop strategies to attract and engage the right candidates while continually and creatively identifying new talent pools to find their next great hires.” [ press release ]

Smashfly gets funded. They power your career site and manage your pipeline. Based in Boston they are a long time player in recruitment circles. [ read story ]

HackerRank launches mobile app. In early January they launched HackerRank Jobs, a job search app that connects companies directly with software engineers who are looking for a new job. The new service is available for iOS and Android, as well as on the web.

Glassdoor introduced a new design. The new layout across the Glassdoor properties lets you apply more parameters to the type of job you’re after and puts the popular reviews feature front and center. The design, like so many apps and web sites, is drafted for consistency across desktop, tablet and mobile devices. [ press release ]

Recruiter.com launches a split network. With proprietary software technology and an unprecedented distribution network, the partnership will create the world’s largest split network and centralized platform for recruitment and staffing for direct employers. [ press release ]
