August 2026 Jobs Report: Rebound Without Real Relief

Key points:

Nonfarm employers gained 162,000 jobs in August, well above expectations, and the unemployment rate held at 4.1%, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Three-month average job growth increased to roughly 71,000 per month, up from just over 38,000 as of July.  Growth was especially strong in Leisure and Hospitality and Government, driven mostly by Food
