The Mom Project Launches the Women’s Work Initiative

NEW YORK, May 21, 2019 — The Mom Project, the leading career marketplace for women, launched the national expansion of its Women’s Work Initiative today. The program will connect 1,000 talented women with leading employers in an effort to promote business, social, and economic growth by maximizing female workforce participation.

Achieving gender parity in U.S. labor participation is an $800 billion opportunity, with most of the gap in female workforce participation attributable to motherhood and time away from the workforce for caregiving reasons.

The largest-ever coordinated effort of its kind, the Women’s Work Initiative is designed to create 1,000 career opportunities for women returning to the paid workforce in sectors including business, technology, legal, healthcare and more.

“Time spent focused on family and raising our next generation of leaders is something that deserves respect. Being a parent first should not result in a lifetime of career penalties,” says Allison Robinson, CEO of The Mom Project. “We’re thrilled to be working with innovative leaders who are deeply committed to making their organizations places where women and families can thrive.”

Dozens of leading companies have already committed to the initiative including Facebook, Uber, PGA TOUR, Invesco, Cardinal Health, Cooley, Georgia-Pacific, JLL, SAP Fieldglass, TransUnion and Voya Financial.

Women bear a disproportionate share of caregiving responsibilities, which means we’ll be losing out on their ideas and perspectives if we don’t work harder to support and retain them at all stages of their careers,” says Bo Young Lee, Chief Diversity Officer at Uber. We’re excited to partner with The Mom Project and take action to foster a more caregiver-inclusive culture at Uber and across the tech industry.”

“Committing to gender parity in the workplace is not only the right thing to do, it’s also been proven to drive stronger business results,” says Jay Monahan, PGA TOUR Commissioner. “The TOUR has made it a key priority to close the gap at every level of our organization and to promote an environment that embraces diversity of thought and background. Partnering with The Mom Project gives us an incredible opportunity to join forces with other companies in these efforts.”
