The media is full of stories about rising inequality and how things are getting out of hand, but doom and gloom generally sells better. It is true that wealth inequality has risen substantially in recent decades, mostly a result of rapidly rising real estate and stock prices. Therefore, most people assume that income inequality has risen as well.
