Screening 101: make sure to get to know the candidate

During your phone screening be sure to ask questions that allow you to gauge the candidates needs and expectations. Find out why they are dissatisfied in their current job. What benefits are important to them? Would they be willing to stay if a counter offer is made.

Getting these answers up front will allow you to tailor your job offer and avoid surprises later in the recruiting process.
