Private Hiring Slows as Labor Market Remains Uneven

Private employers added 98,000 jobs in June, according to ADP, below expectations for 118,000 and down from 122,000 in May. The report points to a slower pace of private-sector hiring, with job gains concentrated in education and health services while leisure and hospitality recorded another month of weak hiring.

The ADP National Employment Report measures monthly changes in private-sector payrolls using anonymized payroll data covering more than 26 million U.S. workers. While its methodology differs from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly employment report, it provides one of the earliest readings on hiring activity ahead of Friday’s official employment report.
