The shifting dynamics of the labor market continue to put pressure on remote work opportunities. In May, the number of U.S. remote job listings fell to 187,073 – a 3.7% decline from April.
This marks the third consecutive monthly drop, suggesting that employers are gradually scaling back on flexible work arrangements as return-to-office mandates and tighter workforce controls gain traction. Despite the pullback, remote listings remained 5.1% higher than in May 2024, indicating that while demand is softening, it has not collapsed.
