When promoting, look internally
- Mentor potential leaders
- Provide internal training so that you can grow your talent
- Consider the possibility of people switching jobs/roles/divisions
* (e.g., talented salesperson joining the analytics team)
* You might need to suggest this yourself in development meetings with employees
* Discuss with talented employees what they might need to learn in order to switch roles, and suggest study materials
* Remember: you want your employees in the roles where they are most effective
