Textio and Canvas may get all the press but there are other great marketing tools available to businesses to help grow their own lists. Case in point is this service I found recently called “Join by Text“.

According to its site, “Join By Text lets people quickly and easily sign up for your email list from their phones – increasing leads and opportunities for engagement.” They say its great for any size business from a national TV show to a local non profit so why not employers too.

Here’s how it works;

1. Pick a one-word, easy-to-spell keyword your audience will text to a 5-digit number to signup for your email list.
2. Create Your Welcome Message and link back to your careers page.
3. Sync with your email marketing platform (MailChimp, etc.) so their email is automatically added to your list or download as a  CSV file.

Employers could use such a service a few ways.

• Offer candidates an easy way to get on your email list at an offline event by texting a simple code.
• Put the texting keyword in your in your videos for easy signup.
• Add it to your job listings for use on external job boards.

Costs: capture up to 500 emails every month using your keyword for $19/month with a 14-day free trial. There is also a larger plan that lets you capture 1,000 emails per month for $39/month.
