For years, hiring technology chased one goal: make applying easier. Shorter forms, autofill, one-click apply. That progress removed real application barriers, but generative AI has now allowed candidates to instantly tailor resumes, write cover letters, and submit to dozens of roles with almost no effort.

Applying became instantaneous. Processing an application did not.
