Study: AI recruiter has a positive impact on hiring for both candidates and companies

AI is changing the way companies hire. According to a large-scale study, job candidates who interviewed with the Anna AI digital recruiter were more likely to get a job offer, show up for their new job, and stay employed longer.

The study was a collaboration between PSG Global Solutions and Dr. Brian Jabarian, an economist at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. It’s one of the first of its kind to examine the impact of AI recruiters on hiring. The findings reveal significant benefits for both job candidates and employers, particularly in high-volume hiring environments.

The Study’s Groundbreaking Results

The research analyzed over 70,000 job interviews across 48 different roles in the healthcare, IT, and industrial sectors. It directly compared interviews led by humans with those conducted by PSG’s Anna AI, and even gave candidates the option to choose between the two. The results showed that Anna AI outperformed human recruiters on nearly every key metric.

Here are some of the key findings from the study:

  • More Job Offers: Candidates who interviewed with Anna AI received 12% more job offers. The study found that these candidates were evaluated more positively, leading to a 9.73% offer rate compared to 8.70% for human-led interviews.
  • Higher Job Start Rates: Candidates who interviewed with Anna AI were 18% more likely to start their new job. Specifically, 6.62% of candidates from AI interviews started their positions, compared to 5.63% from human interviews.
  • Improved Retention: Employees who interviewed with the AI recruiter were 17% more likely to still be employed a month after their start date.
  • Better Interview Quality: The AI recruiter consistently extracted more information from candidates, covering a median of nine topics per interview versus five for human-led interviews. This suggests a more consistent and thorough process.
  • Reduced Gender Discrimination: The reported rate of gender discrimination dropped by nearly half in AI-led interviews (3.3%) compared to human-led interviews (5.98%).
  • Candidate Comfort: A staggering 78% of job candidates chose to interview with the Anna AI recruiter when given the option, indicating growing trust and comfort with AI in the hiring process.

Why It Works

Dr. Jabarian noted that the Anna AI was able to “match human recruiters in conducting job interviews—a complex but key task in hiring—while preserving candidate satisfaction, maintaining smooth operations, and improving hiring efficiency and early retention.” The AI agent also captured more job-relevant information and standardized it, leading to more informed hiring decisions.

Dave Bethea, President and CEO of PSG, highlighted how this study “validates the transformative power of our Anna AI digital recruiter.” He added that this approach blends human expertise with AI-powered precision to “enhance hiring outcomes for our clients” and create a more “equitable, efficient, and engaging experience for job candidates.”

The Anna AI digital recruiter supports the entire recruitment lifecycle, from screening and scheduling to interviewing and onboarding. It’s designed to understand natural language and tailor conversations to each candidate, ensuring a high-quality experience for every applicant. This research confirms that by leveraging AI, companies can not only improve their hiring metrics but also create a more consistent and fair process for everyone.
