Is it time for Job Popups?

Spotted over the weekend in a Facebook employment branding group, this restaurant uses a little popup in the lower right corner of its website that calls attention to their hiring plans. Check out the short screencast to see it in action.

Push notifications, like those powered by vendors such as Pushnami are gaining favor with marketers across the web. Employers should consider using them to drive more traffic to their career site and or jobs. In the case above, it may just be a WordPress popup plugin. One called “Popupmaker” might be worth a look.

I am a big fan of desktop push notifications because you can collect subscribers who opt in and they become yet another channel you can use to promote content on your site. Recently I worked with a job board to highlight featured jobs. With a subscriber base of around 6500 users that were collected over several months, each notification I sent garnered between 150-200 clicks each. The average click rate was around 5%.

Part of being a good recruitment marketer means staying up on overall marketing trends. Popups and browser notifications are certainly part of that strategy. We have them here on this site and I get them on other sites like ERE and Facebook as well.
