How to Get a Job Without Connections

By Shawna Armstrong

Keeping with the theme of job searching, since we are still in the thick of an economic shutdown, hiring is grinding to a halt in many industries and more and more Recruiters are finding themselves out of work.  Before this pandemic, when unemployment was at an all time low, Talent Acquisition was an oversaturated industry.  I witnessed this while looking for work at the end of 2019.  With a LinkedIn premium account, I was able to see how many applicants each position had, and I was often dismayed to find positions of interest, which had only been posted for a few days, already had 300 applicants – and that was only on LinkedIn!

That’s when I came across this gem of an article by Austin Belcak of Cultivated Culture, which is basically a high-powered instruction manual, taking the best of what strategic Sourcers and Recruiters do when they have hard to fill roles and flips it for the job seeker.  Any good Recruiter knows, when you have a difficult role to fill, you don’t just post and pray.  And as a job seeker, your strategy should not be spray and pray.  Check out Austin’s strategy for networking your way to a referral HERE.
