We Have a Trust Problem (in recruiting)

I’ve been quiet about this, but the cat is finally out of the bag: I have been promoted to CEO of ZoomInfo! Yes, after six months here, I have jumped a few levels and now I’m leading the organization.

Well, that was fun to write. And I’m sure most of you rolled your eyes. I certainly did writing it. For the record, I have not been promoted to CEO. Not even close.

But here is where the joke stops being funny. There is nothing preventing me from changing my LinkedIn profile right now and making the whole thing appear true. I can promote myself, rewrite my responsibilities, embellish a few accomplishments and manufacture a spectacular corporate ascent before breakfast. Fold in a little generative AI and I don’t even have to be a particularly convincing liar.

Then I hit save, and my fiction becomes data.
