Hiring funnels are…coercive?

The metaphors we use in recruitment – hiring funnel, candidate pipeline – are hydraulic, where there is no sense that the candidate has any agency – they are just the liquid which needs to be squeezed through the process. What if we rethought out metaphors and placed the candidate back into the a position of choosing? What options would we want to provision for those candidates?
