U.S. Job Openings Fell Again in December as Labor Demand Drops 11% for the Year

Happy New Year. We’ll be publishing our non-farm payroll (NFP) forecast for December along with some commentary on the U.S. labor market sometime in the next few days but for now, we want to get our job vacancy data for December out as soon as possible.

In December, U.S. job openings indexed daily directly from company and employer websites globally declined by 4%, while new job openings dropped 6% and removed job openings rose 4%.

For the year, U.S. labor demand declined about 11%. We’ll see what JOLTS data looks like when it eventually gets released, but through October, JOLTS data
