Employers may see additional interviews as a safeguard against costly hiring mistakes. New JobAssist research suggests that prolonged recruitment can drive away candidates who remain interested in the position but have lost confidence in the company’s ability to make a decision.
As employers scrutinize hiring decisions, adding another interview or approval can appear to be a reasonable precaution. Yet each additional stage also gives candidates more time to reconsider the employer. In a hiring environment where applicants may be pursuing several opportunities, that hesitation carries a competitive cost: companies can lose candidates who would otherwise have accepted the job.
New research from JobAssist found that 41% of respondents had withdrawn from at least one hiring process because it became too long or continued expanding beyond what they had initially been told. Among those who withdrew from a lengthy process, 43% said they still wanted the job when they decided to leave.
