Five years ago, I wrote that hiring is a sales and marketing process. I believed it then, and I believe it now, maybe more so. You build a pipeline, create demand, engage people, and eventually convince the right person to say yes. That part hasn’t changed. What’s changed is what’s flowing through the talent funnel.
Talk to almost any talent acquisition leader today and you’ll hear some version of the same frustration: we’ve never made it easier for people to apply, yet employers are still struggling to find the right people. Those two things sound like they shouldn’t go together.
