Last week I attended the Recruiting Trends conference put on by LRP. It’s a new subset of the HR Tech version focusing mainly on recruiting software.
It was an unusually cold and snowy week in the desert as the region saw its first snowfall in over 10 years! I woke up Thursday to a winter storm warning and scenes of snow on Palm Trees. What a strange trip. I had just escaped New York snow only to find myself back in it.
Those of us that attended still managed to have fun and talk shop. I did a number of interviews form the expo hall and that audio will be coming out next week including conversations with HireClix, Avature, Talvista and more. Stay tuned to the RecTech Podcast for that.
There wasn’t a lot of new technology at the show. AllyO and Paradox, the chatbot companies had the biggest booths and Paradox won the main technology award at the event Gala. Best hiring team went to the folks at Cisco. The amiable Gerry Crispin took home the Recruiting Influencer award for his 40 years of industry service.
I did reconnect with former Indeedian, Sam Fitzroy, who is now running Maia Labs. Check it out if you want to engage those that don’t initially apply on your career site.
The biggest thing on my mind was the recent Jobvite-K1 acquisitions. I asked many execs there what they thought of the deal. The main consensus was;
- They are going to have a hard time integrating all that technology into one.
- All players involved were supposedly “under-performing” which is a big reason why K1 made the move. They saw a chance to roll up some struggling tech and make a profit.
But it’s still one of the boldest moves ever made in HR Tech. Only time will tell how it works out.
Special shoutout for me goes to Doug Berg from ZapInfo. He invited a group of us to TopGolf in the middle of a heavy wet snowfall to hit golf balls. It was one of the more memorable after hour events I have been to in all my recruiting travels.
Anyway, enjoy the music videos. Next stop for me is IAMPHENOM in Philly in April.
